There’s a whole host of differences between functional CSS and inline styles, here are some of the more critical ones:
- Inline styles don’t respect media queries, which basically rules out responsive design
- Inline styles aren’t limited to pre-defined options, this is critical because half of the value of functional CSS is to improve consistency in an application by forcing you to use a limited palette of colours, spacings, and typography styles
- Inline styles cause specificity issues, since they trump separate stylesheets
